“Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. When there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.”
– Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
This amazing quote by the great A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is a profound thought showing that the ultimate fruit of righteousness is nothing but peace. It is not less than a ‘Universal Truth’.
Undoubtedly, righteousness or uprightness, the quality of being morally right, forms the basis for any prosperous & peaceful society. This makes every major religion in the world focus on the attribute of righteousness. It is considered the noblest of the noble path.
Yet unfortunately, contemporary society has been seen deviating from the path of upright behavior. A majority of people are showing an inclination toward fulfilling their materialistic desires and for that, they are moving on the wrong path.
The bug of graft is leaving no one spared whether it is middle or lower middle-class people, a rich person, or a super-rich billionaire. Reasons could be different for falling into the trap of unrighteousness yet the outcome is the same- inner turmoil and disturbance in life.
If people start following the righteous path unquestionably, they would spread happiness to others and succeed in their personal life as well. But in the modern world, which is largely materialistic in nature, it is indeed tough to stay upright all the time.
The result is a vicious web of complexities.
When people commit any wrong, they delude themselves into believing that what they are doing is right because everyone is doing the same. They start creating an imaginary world where their decisions rule and there is no place for conscience. They deviate themselves from the right path, deviate others, lose sight of the outcome and put themselves in a great harm. And most of the time, they do it knowingly.
In the process, they lie to themselves- the worst type of lying one can practice. They don’t think about any morality, right or wrong. All that matters is their unfulfilled dreams and materialistic desires. It all results in a complex web of wrongdoings.
Understand that after leading such a life when anyone would look back on it, they would find that all the time when they were doing unrighteous things they were lying to their souls- the essence of which is purity and righteousness. They were involved in pursuing a sinful act that would only, at best, produce temporal pleasure.
Know that despite its temptation and ease of committing, unrighteousness gets you nowhere in the end. So, always try to stay right in your path.
Righteousness would result in positive outcomes all the time.
Righteousness is always the way to go for all. It boosts confidence and empowers your willpower. Being true to your conscience also means you are kind and forgiving towards your own ‘Self’. It is a healing attribute in itself. You have clarity in your mind and your thoughts are pure. All such qualities enable you to lead a healthy life.
Dishonesty is really heavy to carry off in anybody’s life. The most appalling thing about being unrighteous is that it would remove the peace from your life. Staying true to your conscience saves your energy and lets you live happily & peacefully with absolutely no regrets.
This is because you don’t have to stay cautious to protect yourself and you don’t need to carry the burden of ‘Bad Karma’ in your entire life.
Also, courage is just not the absence of any kind of fear rather courage is doing what you know you want to do in a given situation, despite any likely bad outcome. It takes a great amount of courage to behave in a way you want. Although it is tough to be honest & fearless, but its definite outcome is peace of mind.
Hence always try to stay righteous in your personal, professional and social life. A majority of people in the world are for sure unkind, unrighteous, and of Tamasik nature yet for you, your own life should matter. Make it healthier, happier and peaceful and for that always stay on the right path no matter how tempting the unrighteous path may look.
The ultimate purpose of life, after all, is peace!
