Life’s Journey is yours to walk Alone
“Someone else’s eyes, someone else’s strength, and someone else’s knowledge or perception will never be yours. Instead, you can only count on your own eyes, strength, perception, and wisdom.”
The journey of life is a narrow path through pitch darkness. If you have a lamp of knowledge and awareness, you can move towards your goal on that narrow path through the darkness. The path of life is unknown, full of darkness. At times the path will be filled with family, friends, and acquaintances but the path of life is one for you to walk by yourself. You alone must go through life’s pain and pleasures. People can be there to share your happiness. But at the time of crisis, pain, and suffering, you are by yourself.
There was an old man, in the last stage of his life and quite content and happy with his family. He had four sons and four daughters-in-law. His eyes had gotten quite weak and he could not see properly. The doctor suggested that the old man get an operation so he could see better. The old man refused. He said there is no need for it. There are 16 eyes in my house. 8 from my sons and 8 from my daughters-in-law. They are all mine. They take really good care of me and stay with me until night. They do not leave me by myself for even a short time. So, I do not need to get the eyes operated. I am fine without it. The doctor tried to make him understand that their eyes are theirs. It’s great that they take such good care of you; it is their love and respect for you. But you should still consider getting your eyes operated for your own sake. The old man continues to refuse. Unfortunately, one day the old man’s house caught on fire. Everyone ran outside, his sons and daughters-in-law, leaving him behind. When trouble arises, a person thinks of saving themselves first. It is only natural. The old man got badly burnt in the fire and fell onto the ground floor of the house. All he could remember is what the doctor had said “your eyes are your eyes; you cannot depend on anyone’s eyes.”
People are alone in the crowd and alone when by themselves too. That is the reason you cannot gain anything from anybody else’s knowledge or understanding. You can only count on your own knowledge and understanding. Every person is alone in their struggle, their sadness, and their relationships. Awaken this understanding and walk the path of life with courage. Be independent and self-dependent at every stage of life. The elderly must be even more cautious and never keep any expectations from their children. Be prepared to walk the long winding path of life alone. Doing so will also bring peace of mind.
