Consciousness is an observant state of the mind in which you are totally aware of yourself, your circumstances and God. It is not an automatic process in the brain, but a kind of behavior that can be inculcated by you like any other behavior. And for that, you need knowledge, practice, and the power of meditation.Guru Purnima enables to accomplice that.

Further, Guru Purnima is one of the most auspicious occasions for the seekers who want to learn the techniques to empower their consciousness. The day is also the most appropriate day to receive Guru’s grace and move along on the spiritual journey. That’s why Seekers and Devotees give such importance to this day. They meet their Guru and seek His divine blessings or ‘Shaktipat’ wherein the transmission of spiritual energy takes place from the Guru to Devotees either by touch or virtually.
Understand that the Guru is a lamp staying alit with the oil of Divinity. Shaktipat is a sacred ceremony in which the Guru with His spark sets alight the lamp called a disciple and endless disciples thereby awakening Divinity in them.
The Season of Fresh Energy & Transformation
The atmosphere around Guru Purnima also has a deep significance. It is the season of transformation. A sort of uneasiness is present due to sweaty summers. Everyone eagerly awaits rains and a change of season with freshness all around. And when the raindrops fall, they infuse new energy in all living beings.
Animals and plants feel rejuvenated and our farmers start looking forward to prosperous times as these raindrops become the saving grace for their crops. Moreover, we too start feeling renewed due to the pleasant weather with a cool breeze. All plants, trees, and grass look attractive and along with them, ponds, rivers, and streams appear salubrious. A variety of fruits, flowers, and vegetables fill up the gardens and marketplaces.
Amid such a refreshing and transformative season, seekers begin or resolve to intensify their Sadhana even before the Guru Purnima day. They seek to refresh and renew their spiritual vows. Under the guidance of the Guru, they start their journey of self-realization and self-transformation.
Guru Purnima, the Day of Devotees
On this day, the disciples fast and only accept a Satvic diet. They offer salutations in the Holy feet of their Divine Master, their Guru, offer flowers and prasad, chant their Guru Mantra and spend time meditating. The occasion is a day of pure joy for them as they eagerly await the Divine glimpse of their Guru. They offer their heartfelt gratitude, seek forgiveness for all their wrongdoings over the past 12 months, and pour out their heart to Him. In return the Guru showers His love and blessings upon all selflessly.
Under the guidance of the Guru, they become pure like a cool breeze and start flowing just like a river that flows steadily towards its ultimate goal, the ocean. They ceaselessly move towards the supreme state of blissfulness along with their Guru.
Further, the moon on the Guru Purnima night shines brightly reflecting its full splendor. Seekers also purify themselves through Sadhana and experience the glorious light of their ‘Self’ thereby allowing their consciousness to grow by the grace of the Guru.
So, Guru Purnima is the day of Grace. Try to absorb this Grace by moving on the spiritual path along with your Guru. By doing this, allow your consciousness to grow that will enable you, as a seeker, to lead a better and happier life.
