This life is a beautiful gift from God. He wants all His children to lead a meaningful life. That’s why human beings are bestowed with superior mental and physical capabilities. But without a sense of purpose, no one can lead a truly meaningful life. You must have a direction in life and finding that should be more than just a dream or ambition. Your long-term goals with resolve can potentially change the lives of other people as well. So, try to find your purpose in life. But, how?
Reading the Ramayana, The Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, and motivational books may connect you to various inspiring stories. Others’ experiences may give your life a sense of meaning. The Gita can easily infuse a stronger sense of purpose in anyone’s life. History shows how some men transformed their lives and found a purpose for living after reading about the experiences of others be they good or bad experiences. Reading allows you to see the perseverance in the lives of great men. You understand, what is Karma, what is Dharma, and how a ‘life of purpose’ should be achieved.
So, if you see yourself overwhelmed with negativity and feel lost in life, feel that you are living an aimless life, then make a concerted effort to read some scriptures or biographies of great men. There is a great possibility that they might help you to see what really matters in your own life and give your life a purpose.
At times, another person’s pain and agony can lead you towards your own purpose. You may offer your talent, time, or money to help them and find meaning in your life. If you are a giver, you are actually leading a meaningful life right now. Even if you are a ‘giver’ in any relationship, you will lead a more purposeful life. So, find your aim in life through volunteering for social service organizations, offering help to causes you care about, or simply helping the people in your family, in your community, on a day-to-day basis.
Sometimes, just contemplate about what you truly love to do, your passions. What skills do you have? This can also help you find your purpose in life. Do you like cooking or teaching or painting or anything that requires creative skills? Your skill might be best used in a more creative way. Any skill can give an amazing meaning to your life just like Srila Prabhupada. His language skills motivated him to propagate the teachings of Gita in the western world. And this remained the single purpose of his whole life, which also has transformed the lives of millions. So, consider what type of skills do you have and then think how you might turn your passion into something meaningful to you and those who are related to you.
Appreciation from others is a great motivation. Whatever you do, share your work with your family and friends. Appreciation from others helps you find your talent in a real way and you will find your purpose. Moreover, understand that discovering the purpose of life is not something that can be done in a few days, weeks, or months. It can be a long journey, and it can only be done one step at a time. But once you will discover that, you will witness a huge transformation in your life.
“A purpose-driven life is a life worth living and most adored by God”. HH Sudhanshu Ji Maharaj
