Why Yagya is performed from ages?

Why Yagna is performed from ages?

The ones who perform yajnas always remain grateful, but the devout person devoted to the yajna attains salvation. Those who perform Yajna for the welfare of mankind and without getting entangled in the webs of life shall attract His Grace. God gives material and spiritual pleasures to those who perform yagya with reverence, true conscience, pure character, pure charitable vision. Their sacrifice is also recognized. Yajna is the duty of man, in a way Yajna is also a source of food for the universe. Yagya nourishes the entire Universe. The mouth of the Universe is Yajna. A Yajna which is performed by the scriptural method in a selfless way, is a Satvik Yagya. It is such an ‘Agnihotra’ that brings God’s Grace upon the yagyik. Today, pollution and imbalance in the five elements of nature has resulted in a
very unstable universe. As a result, People are sicker, corona epidemic grips the world stage, danger of war looms and there is even more misery all around. The cause of the spread of despair, gloom and deprivation is an imbalance in the five elements of Nature. Today the water is polluted, the earth environment is bad, the greenery of the mountains is being destroyed, the glaciers are melting, the heat is rising, the air is getting polluted. Water, air, earth, fire, sky are all the elements of the universe. Today everyone is losing their true self. Pollution is affecting everyone. As a result, all seasons are unstable with drought and torrential rains at odd times.

Therefore, it is very important that we join in performing Yajna and nourish the whole nature. With true devotion, chanting of sacred mantras, in a clean environment, placing offerings in the sacred fire of a yagna, in the Divine guidance of a Guru, will yield certain best results. Acharya Charak, the sage of Ayurveda, had long ago said that if the elements of the universe were not nourished, then the age to come would be an era of diseases. Air quality will worsen, water will be impure, seasons will diminish, the mountains will be barren with forests turning into infernos and natural beauty shall fade away. In fact, when the Nature is angry, the whole society and the entire era must suffer. Then only Yajna and Seva are the solution.

Yagna is not only offering samagri in the holy fire but Hindu scriptures state that every noble deed is a yagna. Our sages emphasized more on the deeds like: feed the hungry, feed hay to the cow, share love and sympathy among the suffering people, serve the sick, educate rishis in the Gurukuls, serve the aged, perform daily worship, meditate and do all these with true faith and compassion. All such acts of kindness are also yajna. In fact, whatever work we do with benevolence, they are all called Yajna. Those yagnas should form the basis of all lives in the public interest. For over fifteen years Maharajshri has inspired millions to participate in yagnas of all kinds for the welfare of man and the environment. The Yajna gave birth to the four Vedas – Trik, Sajuh, Sama and Atharva. It is mentioned in the Rigveda, Yajurveda and Atharvaved that yagna is what holds the entire universe together.

There are five types of Yajna or sacrifices – God is Yajna, this world is a yajna, a well-organized human society is a yajna, human life is a yajna, every act of kindness is a yajna. When a saint, Guru and Satguru adopts a resolution to
perform a yajna, it has a deep universal significance and the entire universe is healed with such yagnas. Disciples who participate in such a yagna also benefit by Grace of the Guru. Health, happiness and prosperity increase in their family. Since ancient times, daily rituals in the ashrams of sages were a combination of service, spiritual practice and yagna. From time to time, mass yagnas would be organized allowing devotees from far and near to participate. Pujya Shri Sudhanshu Ji Maharaj has been inviting learned sages to perform sacred yajnas every year at Anand Dham Ashram and one such yajna is the sacred Sri Ganesh Lakshmi evam Yajurveda Mahayagya. With the Corona crisis this year, Maharajshri has pledged to perform the most sacred Yajurveda Yajna. The Yajurveda is considered the second Veda in the four Vedas. Mythological and ancient texts state that there was only one Vedas in the Tretayuga, Yajurveda.  At that time, it was considered auspicious to perform Yajna before starting any new work.
