THE URGE FOR THE DIVINE UNION
Saint Fareed was a respected saint. He maintained that anyone who worshipped God, he would be bestowed with the love of the Master of the World. The one who tags all his energy with God he becomes entitled to share the divine throne. A man was listening to what the saint was saying. He expressed his doubts. The saint repeated his sermon to him. That person met with the saint again once on the way. Addressing the saint, he said, “I would like to reach God.
Please tell me of some short-cut route to reach God.” The saint told him again, “You should consolidate all energies and focus them on God and you will be able to reach God.”
After saying this Sant Fareed went to the river for taking his bath. This man also came along but sat on the bank of the river. He said to the saint, “Please tell me something more on how to reach God fast.” Sant Fareed asked him to come down and get into the water. As the man entered the water, Sant Fareed caught hold of him, pushed him under
the water, and sat on his back. The man tried hard to come out of the water. He pushed Sant Fareed away in the water with full force and saved himself. He said to Sant Fareed, “I have come here to learn something from you not to get drowned.” Sant Fareed said, “Don’t worry. I do not want to drown you but would like to teach you swimming. And now listen to what I am saying – when I was pushing you in the water, what was your prime thought?” the man
said that he never thought of anything else than saving his life. “What did you do for this?” asked Sant Fareed. The man said, “This is not a big issue. To save one’s life one must apply his full power.
I have applied my full power to save myself from drowning.” Sheikh Fareed said, “So, this is the lesson. Apply your full energy to reach God. You will reach him and you will get God for sure.” Sant Fareed told, “Man, you have inducted your life in the world fully, you call the home as your life, the shop is your life, the relatives are also your life, even you call your brother as your life, the wife is your life. You have infused your life in everything but have not induced your life in God.
Had you consolidated all your powers and focused them on God you would have got God already; it was not impossible.” What a great way to clarify the concept! It was done this way by the gurus of the olden days but it is difficult for the modern-day Gurus to explain such concepts. I will also suggest that we should develop and strengthen old relationships and get attached to all and various forms of God. Let these relations become your relatives and let the energy get concentrated to venerate the divine feet. Have faith in him, you will be blessed with
success for sure.
When moving towards God, the darkness begins to dispel. The knowledge begins to flow and emerge from within. If that knowledge is disseminated it never gets exhausted. It is the same way when spring emerges and begins to flow but it never dries up. The constant flow is the key point. When Lord Buddha got enlightened, he was sitting under the Bodhi Tree. He continued to deliver sermons. He never stopped. It is very interesting to know that all his sermons were collected in the three Tripitak volumes. Lord Buddha had never written anything with his own hands.
The three volumes contain all the sermons. He continued to speak and people continued to listen. People wondered where all the words were coming. But the wise knew that these words were flowing from inside and there was a lamp of knowledge which was aglow inside him. The knowledge should continue to flow in a stream even though the
takers may get tired of receiving it. Lord Buddha continued to give and the takers continued to receive, collect and preserve.
