Gurus or teachers play a vital role in our lives. The very first teacher of our life is our mother. She teaches us the all the initials of our life. Then, we learn from our educational teachers, who teach us how to progress and earn. But after all this, the one who teaches us and be a torch bearer for us to cross the rough sea of life “Bhav-Sagar” is the guru, the spiritual Guru in our life.
Such is the importance of this guru that we get Moksha, if we follow the teachings in a manner stated by him.
Devotion (Bhakti) is necessary, it transforms the knowledge (Jnana) into the practice (Karma). The feeling of any kind of gain or outcome may result in incomlete surrender(an obstacle in your bhakti), and thus shows your selfishness in the process, which might toa bad result in life. Just like, an extra pinch of salt added into a recipe makes it taste bad, one act of selfishness leverages your bhakti in front of your guru.
Therefore, the complete surrender is required to completely transform the life. The desciple has to be empty to fill himself to the brim with the blessings and wisdom showered by the Guru. Compete devotion leads to wonders as then you are no more leading your life, it is the Guru who has become the torch bearer to take you on the best path possible.
Sometimes wonder that why do we need a Guru when God resides in our hearts?. The answer is, that without devotion to the guru, there is no path to find our inner selves, where Supreme resides. Guru means the guiding light, who eliminates the ignorance so that we can identify the right from wrong. Gayatri mantra explains that the Guru is like the Sun, who emits the light that initiates the intellect in the right direction. Without full devotion to the guru, there is no liberation and no realization. It is the root of ultimate success, it is the root that can make your life flourish. Like a teacher helps you know how to grow in this world, a guru takes care that we progress in both outer and inner world. He makes dharma reside in our heart and thus in our life.
A guru is a teacher whose bond should be primary. His bond is greater than all the worldly ties. Respect and love your guru.
