Purandar Das sang twenty thousand songs in the love and praise of God but out of them, only two thousand have been preserved. He went on singing but those who were his followers and managing things could not save all of His sacred words and songs. But he went on singing in his joy and ecstasy. Every time God presented Himself from his heart in the form of new words. Now see, how he chose his words and how he sang. I am presenting before you a few of his words. He would say: ‘O Man! The pitcher is made of mud. But unless it is baked in the fire it remains mud only. But once it is baked, the pitcher made of mud is mud no more. Its mud does not stick to lips; now it is safe and preserved.
Likewise, everything in the world is made of mud. Your body, too, is made of mud. But if you do not bake yourself in the love of God you remain mud only but as soon as you bake yourself you become precious; your status is elevated. Then you do not look like mud; you look immortal and valuable. He said, “A sugarcane may be twisted or crushed, but its juice sweet; a river may be meandering, but not its waters. Things placed in the sky may be bent, but not the sky. Houses etc. may be irregular in shape, but the sky is not. The world may be cross or distorted, but not God, its Creator. He is always kind. Love Him and try to call Him in love.” He sang very beautifully, endearing songs. But imagine how all these feelings poured out from inside his heart. But all this happened and appeared when he connected his instrument with God and told him that Purandar Das was nothing – he was just in the company of God.
Meera sang so much. Wherefrom did all that emanate! How many persons are there doing research on Meera, Kabir, Guru Nanak Dev for a Ph.D. degree? Which university did Guru Nanak Dev study in? But now universities are being opened bearing his name, and thousands of persons will undertake research on him. But one, who has studied in the divine school of God; one who has drunk nectar at His feet, his source will never dry up. He will go on distributing endlessly. Inside his heart is such a reservoir, you may bring out as many things as you wish.
Yesterday I was sitting at home. Someone had come from Bombay. His child asked me, “You speak so much, wherefrom does it come?” because he knew that there were eight hundred fifty recordings on different topics. If you look carefully, it is not the “I” of a person that speaks. If you allow yourself to be the instrument of God then it is God Who speaks, His kindness, and His grace speaks and not the man. When a man “I” speaks, it is not effective.
Therefore, discuss anything that you may wish but do involve God in it. Wherever you sit, walk or move, try to feel and experience His grace as if you are sitting in His lap; you are lying prostrate before Him; you are receiving the charanamrit of His feet; you are receiving His prasad, His bounty; and whatever you are doing is in His service, because we are all His servants, His servers, His employees. If you think that you are present for His service, then God is not far from you. Let Him be the witness to your life – this is the highest form of devotion. Let God enter inside you then see His pleasure and charm. Further, it is said the Death will not contemplate or kill him who has worshipped Murari. What does this mean? One who has placed God’s name in his heart, does not have the terrible form of death before him.
Aye hain so jayenge raja rank faquir
Ek sinhasan charhi chale ek bandhe zanzir.
It is true that all those who are born in this world will have to go from here, i.e., die one day. But the difference lies in this: one goes riding a throne; and another goes to his death, tied in chains.
