सर्वरूपमयी देवी, सर्वं देवीमयं जगत्।
अतोहम् विश्वरूपां तां, नमामि परमेश्वरीम्।।
When a mother takes a restless child in her comforting lap, what’s her intent?
She wants her child to be protected from all evils, distress and problems of the world. And she ensures that as well through her words and deeds. Therefore, no matter where a man reaches in life, or how powerful he becomes, when he faces any problem or pain at any stage of life, he yearns for his mother only.
Goddess Durga is one such mother. She is the embodiment of the ultimate power, warmth, and the divine energy. When you surrender yourself to Her in case of any pain, you feel an amazing relief. She removes all your pain and suffering.

She keeps Her devotees in Her kind protection in all circumstances.
Also, ‘Durga’ literally refers to ‘warrior’. She takes Her devotees across all difficulties like a ship across the ocean. Under Her protective shield, Her sons effortlessly move beyond all the sorrows of their worldly existence. So, worship Her in the divine form of Jagadamba, keep chanting Her names and in the process forget yourself immersing all your ego in Her pious form.
Move Towards Devotion Automatically
Understand that life is a complex mixture of dualities. You have to face defeat-victory, happiness-grief, praise- vilification, etc. Amidst all this, it’s also important to stay happy despite episodes of distress in life. For that you need balance and patience in life. In difficult times, you have to become courageous and fight, and when you win your courage enhances automatically.
Likewise, when you forgive others, you enhance forgiveness within yourself. When you are kind, the virtue of kindness and compassion enhances within yourself. And when such virtues increase within yourself, then you start moving towards devotion automatically.
Develop such virtues in yourself that the nine forms of Goddess Durga represent like courage, penance, wisdom, graciousness, creativity, compassion, perfection, etc. With practice, when you get successful in realizing such virtues within yourself, you automatically feel Her blessings in your life.
The World, the Land of Distractions
Understand this entire world as a huge palace built by God. The Higher Power has dispersed various materials of pleasures around this palace as distractions. Now God wants his devotees to reach Him by crossing these distractions. But when a human enters the world, he gets attracted towards these temptations feeling greed, attachment, lust, and ego. He gets trapped in the worldly affairs and desires. This is called Maya, illusions.
You need wisdom to cross this entrapment of Maya and you get such wisdom from a Guru who helps you in finding the right path towards God through worship, reverence and meditation. By practicing them, you can develop self-control, inner strength, and self-realization and move on the path of devotion, seeking strength, reverence, gratification, knowledge, affluence, and peace from God.
Finally, understand that Shakti or Goddess Durga, in its various forms is present within you. This Shardiya Navratri, invoke your inner powers through prayers and meditation and invite Goddess Durga’s grace to your life. This is the best way to worship Her.
