How Good Books Change Your Life

One of the finest ways to absorb knowledge and wisdom without putting in much effort is by reading a book. Good books can do wonders. They may enthrall you, take you out of the depressing phases of your life, give you profound moments of bliss, teach you new skills and connect you with great personalities. There are countless books that may fill your heart with devotion and take your life in a completely fresh direction.

Good books have great power. Allow them, they can transform your life.

But how does a book change your life?

1. They Make You Compassionate

The reading power in you is a beautiful blessing by Goddess Saraswati. If you are reading something means you care enough to truly listen to other persons’ perspective. So, reading flexes your empathy. It connects you to strangers and you give your time to involve yourself in their story. Even if you vehemently disagree with them, you get to know them and feel their pain. This compassion turns you into a caring human being changing your outlook in a great way.

2. They Make You Discover a Part of Yourself

Some books can act like a mirror placed before you. When you read these books, you feel that, yes, that is how I feel in such a situation. In fictitious characters and their stories, you find a part of your own life. You may laugh, smile, or cry because that’s your life you’re reading. You feel like you’ve been looking for this story the whole time to understand your own situation.

The author has flawlessly described your own world, or reminded you of your beautiful past, shed light on your deepest beliefs, or brightened that dim hope you carry in you. This is a great feeling as you know that you are not an exception who is facing this situation. And this feeling works like a motivation pill.

For e.g., if you are dealing with some of the toughest questions posed by life, start reading the Bhagavad Gita, chapter by chapter, and put yourself in the place of Arjun. You will feel that Arjun’s dilemmas are just like yours. Listen to what Lord Krishna is telling you. Your life will be transformed.

3. They Motivate

There are many books that teach you significant lessons about something and can have a positive influence on the decisions that you make in your life.

For instance, some books teach you not to choose the wrong path in life, some teach you to work hard and some make you understand the aftereffects of wrong deeds. These could be life-changing lessons for you.

4. They Give You Knowledge

As long as you are alive, you should never stop learning. An important advantage of reading books is that they infuse a great amount of knowledge in you. This knowledge is power and gives your life a whole new dimension.

Whatever knowledge the book offers, it gets imprinted in your memory forever which makes you confident. And confidence is necessary for achieving success in life.

5. The Sharpen Your Imaginative Power

Books give an edge to your imaginative capability. You can open the door of your imagination according to the scenes described in a book.

For instance, read the episode of Lord Ram’s exile in Ramayana. With each passage, with each verse, you can visualize myriads of emotional scenes and their finer details. You can feel the pain of a helpless father, the anger of a loving brother, and the sacrifice of a newly-married girl.

Sooner or later, an imaginative and creative mind brings positive changes in life.

Therefore, take some time out from your busy schedule and invest it in reading some good books. Good books have the power to transform your life and no matter what you are facing right now, read good books.
