“Of all the religions, the best religion is to repeat God’s name and to do pious deeds. Of all the religion rites, the best rite is to remove the filth of evil intellect by association with the saints.”

-Guru Arjan Dev Ji

How a Guru Brings Momentous Changes to Your Life

It is really important to have an association with the saints and Guru. A Guru guides a seeker to find the state of calm and peace, by sharing his own inner knowledge. Everyone understands that worldly comforts and inner peace are crucial parts of the integrated reality of a person’s life. A lack of alignment between the two causes confusion & despair. A Guru holds your hand firmly in such situations and moves your gaze inward to reveal to you the light of your own Self.

And that’s how you start your journey from Self to Self that ultimately leads to momentous changes in your life for good. The Guru simply sheds light on your complete being so that you can move forward in the quest for Self-Realisation. He teaches seekers virtues that can make life successful.

All over the world, Sikhs are considered embodiments of bravery and fearlessness. They have learned these virtues from their Gurus. Guru Arjan Dev, for example, has led an exemplary life of courage. A Mughal emperor ordered that Arjan Dev Ji be tormented and killed. They made him sit on a hot cauldron, poured burning sand on him, kept him without water and food, and threw him in boiling water.

Still, Arjan Dev Ji endured the suffering calmly. His tale is truly inspiring. Reading about his incredible life can fill your heart with great inspiration and valor.

Why a Guru is Important in Life

Since the beginning of life, we ought to follow someone and take inspiration. In any form, this inspiration is the seed of development. This inspiration must be there otherwise one’s development would stop. A Man takes birth with curiosity in his heart and a willingness to live. But if there’s no inspiration, the yearning to live would come to an end.

And then the person would think, what I am doing here, why I am alive, no one takes care of me, no one understands me; and in such circumstances, no man can live with peace and happiness. Such people start harming themselves because in life, either you are moving forward or going downward, just like a ball in the air, either it will go up or come down. There is no middle way for it. So, either you are developing or diminishing. A Guru, however, makes you choose the right path always.

Moreover, we humans are so strange. We can endure wounds inflicted by others, but we can’t tolerate the wounds given by our own people. We easily become the victims of emotional tension and stress. This emotional pain breaks people. To deal with this pain also, you need a Guru who can guide you during phases of temporary setbacks and inspire you to cope with every situation.

And that’s why they say, ‘You must have a Guru in your life and if you don’t have one, make one out of clay and gain inspiration from this idol of the Guru.’

The Power of Inspiration

A Guru keeps inspiring you. Listen to his words with dedication, and contemplate those words. Whatever Guru teaches you, meditate on that. His words remove possessions that are useless in your life and help you protect those that are precious. And when you start removing all the useless stuff and save whatever is precious then the divinity that is present within you emerges. And its impact will provide you with the ultimate pleasure and happiness.

Under the guidance of a Guru, you will improve, not for the world but for yourself.

Do you know how a Guru transformed the life of Alexander?

Alexander & Aristotle, the inspiring story!

Aristotle taught Alexander about philosophy, morals, medicine, religion, art and logic. You should read the exchanges between Alexander and his Guru. The conversation is wonderful. When Aristotle asked Alexander, what you want to achieve in life, he said, I want to be the greatest achiever in my country. Then Aristotle said, why just in your own country, why not in the world?

Alexander said because I am not capable of achieving that. And then Aristotle said I know your real capabilities; you don’t have any idea about it. Trust my words, and trust your abilities, you will surely achieve extraordinary things in life, and win the world. Such words of his Guru inspired him and the world knows about the accomplishments of Alexander the Great.

Now understand a strange attribute of human beings.

Humans keep themselves confined in a boundary created by their own thoughts. A Guru shatters that boundary with inspiring words and noble thoughts. With the help of such guidance, seekers can achieve anything in life.

And this is how a Guru brings momentous changes to life. Just trust his words and follow him with full faith. He will give the right guidance and bend your energies towards the right path. The right guidance eventually changes you for good and you attain what you want in life.
