Her devotional songs to the Lord are well-known. Living in a temple in Vrindavan. While cooking food in the morning for Lord Krishna she used to continue reciting her bhajans in praise of Him. One day the head priest of the temple noticed that she was cooking food without taking bath and changing her dress she was cooking food. He admonished Meera on why she was cooking food for presentation to the Lord in such an unclean situation and without changing her clothes. He told her that Lord would never accept such food if cooked in this way.
Fearing that cooking food and presenting it to the Lord according to the religious rites. She was delayed in presenting the food to the Lord. After three days the head priest saw the Lord in his dream. Lord told him that for the last three days He was hungry. The head priest thought the Meera must have committed some mistake and that she had not taken enough care about her cleanliness and in not cooking the food according to the religious rites.
The Lord said: “She has been preparing food for the last three days in a proper manner. But she has perhaps been thinking that there might not be any mistake committed by her in cooking food. This way I am perhaps not able to realise the seriousness of her devotion towards Me. She is not able to offer food to me in time and properly”. Hearing this the head priest felt sorry and told Meera to cook food in the same way as she used to prepare earlier with full love and devotion.
The love and devotion to God should be expressed in such a way that you feel satisfied. We are able to please God. Even without reciting the verses and offering flowers to God. If we remember God with full devotion and from the inner heart, God is pleased. This is the true devotion and love for God.
