His Holiness Acharya Sudhanshu ji Maharaj
Lord Rama was preparing to go to the forests. Laxman also wanted to follow Rama. When Laxman went to his mother to seek her blessings and permission, he said: ‘Mother, I wish to accompany brother Rama. While there, I would remain in his service.’ He asked his mother for advice and instructions. The moral teachings were already in his nerves. Laxman expected that his mother would advise him differently while leaving for the forests.
The mother instructed him: ‘Even in the forests the infatuation would arise, but there should be only one motive before you i.e., service. And whenever you remember your father, mother or the beautiful Ayodhya, this is what you should do: When you remember your father, imagine that you are seeing your father in Rama; if you remember your mother, then see for her in Sita; when you remember Ayodhya consider that the forests in which many flowers bloom is Ayodhya. But never ignore your duty and service. This is my teaching for you.’ Now consider: The dutiful mother who has no desire; she is doing her duty and the duty is so beautiful that she inculcates great moral values in her son. In the ancient Indian scriptures, names of ideal and respected mothers like Suniti, Sumitra and Madalsaare remembered with great respect. Suniti, Sumitra and Madalsa are three unique mothers. They raised their children as their duty but never did they cultivate any desires or rewards from them. Suniti advised her son that he should not wish for his worldly father but wish for the father who is the father of all andmake himself deserving of that lap.
A mother who expects from this world, desires for worldly things, wishes for one thing or the other, she would bedistressed. One should not expect rewards for the duties performed and remain detached forgetting about affections. Underthese condition the mother would not have any pain, her way of living would be different, and filled with peace. When we look at this world with some expectations then associations and attachments arise. When we see the world with the sense of detachment the sense of association disappears. Do not look anywhere else with expectations. Perform your duties as worship and without any strings of attachment.
