Human service is a divine feeling. Those whose lives are dedicated for the cause and benefit of the poor is like devotion to God. They achieve solace at the feet of the Supreme Lord. Service is a process of purification of mind, an attempt to lose the ego. Creating a balanced lifestyle that includes service to the poor and needy can help you reduce stress as well. You feel more connected to your spirit, more grateful to yourself for what you have done for others. You feel worthy of your good deeds yourself and feel satisfied too. It has now been established that those who help and serve others tend to enjoy higher levels of mental health and goodness in life. Donation or divine service can be performed in various ways – physically, mentally, intellectually, financially, and by employing all your energies to accomplish some activity that has been initiated for the welfare of the individual or for an organization. There can be a structured service e.g., time-related, or even a spontaneous act. Service, to be
performed, should be voluntary.
Motivation for Donation comes from within and from the evident need. The motivation for donation originates from the depth of a divine heart. Such feelings emerge out of the need which one sees for himself and which one sees around him in the world. He realizes the need to donate when he feels that there is a gap, there is a vacuum in
meeting the needs of life. Donations are voluntary and are made on the spur of the moment. Donations are not made from fear or pressure. Donations, when made, are the contributions to meet the needs of humanity, to fulfill some humanitarian mission, to soften the level of pain, to support those who need support. It does not matter what
should be the level of donations – whatever it is, it is a divine gift, a contribution to serve humanity.
Divine blessings vibrate the Heart. Divine blessings create ripples and vibrations in one’s heart, one decides to donate for those who are in need. The donation is a divine duty, a pious action. Blessed are those who have been placed economically and socially in society in such a status that they are able to help others. One need not
look for making donations – these can be made anywhere, but with due considerations to ensure they are for a genuine purpose and rightful recipient. According to our Scriptures, any contribution made for educational purposes is the best donation. This way one empowers the mind of those who are ignorant and those who need enlightenment. Any contribution, in cash or kind or through service, is for the creation of an enlightened society.
Spontaneous service rendered to the needy, infirm, child or woman, without expecting any favors in return, is the service rendered to God and humanity. It is a selfless service. Such an act pleases not only your mind but also your soul. You feel immensely happy and satisfied by performing such an act. Performance of such a service is also
not to be remembered for too long. If it is retained in your mind for too long, it loses its value, warmth, and aroma. You begin to expect returns, and this expectation nullifies the value of the service rendered. However, one should have the inner tendency to offer divine service whenever there is the slightest chance to serve.
