Even though everyone understands that they should prioritize their health, not everyone does. Between job, family responsibilities, children, and demanding schedules, too often, focusing on personal health becomes really difficult. Yet, everyone must think about maintaining good health, especially during this latest Omicron wave.
During these times, developing a robust immunity is of utmost importance. A strong immune system and inner strength are essential to prevent any disease, including COVID. First of all, remember that one’s immunity cannot be boosted in one day. It should be a part of daily life and habits.
You can keep your body healthy by focusing on your diet, sleep and lifestyle. Prioritize your health unfailingly to manage each of these well. Here’s how.
Everybody is fighting an unseen enemy that is extra contagious and spreading like wildfire across the globe. The first step to protect yourself is to minimize contact with anything or anyone. Be mindful and avoid unnecessary contact and practice proper hand washing practices. Stay at home and reschedule all non-essential travel. Follow the physical distancing and all the preventive measures to keep yourself and others around you safe.
Note that one of the main causes of this pandemic has been the dietary habits of people. It is good if you take the Sattvic diet (Nutritious Food) and make it a habit. Include sprouted foods, plenty of fruits and vegetables, consume properly cooked food with sides like the homemade mint / green chutney. Homemade Chutney surprisingly helps in building a strong immune system. Add fresh mint, fresh coriander, tomatoes or Amla (gooseberry) in it and take it regularly.
Also, include good sources of Vitamin C in your diet but, avoid sour food items that may cause a sore throat. People having a sore throat may drink or gargle with warm water with turmeric & salt. You may replace one cup of tea with one cup of hot turmeric water at least once daily. It has amazing health benefits.
In addition, consume Amla and Aloe Vera. They provide Vitamin C and boost immunity. Green black pepper with honey also boosts immunity. Include whole grains, lentils, beans, vegetables, and fruits of all colors in your diet for antioxidants and longevity.
The bottom line is having a pure, nutritious and balanced diet.
Furthermore, try to avoid too much fatigue these days. Get a minimum of 6 to 8 hours sleep every day; 8 hours sleep for younger people and at least 10 hours for children. Although the amount of sleep decreases in old age due to stress and tension yet try to be happy, stay calm and improve your quality of sleep. Good quality sleep helps the body in absorbing abundant life energy. Sleep has a positive impact on your nervous system and it boosts immunity naturally.
Understand that a healthy lifestyle includes exercise. Three types of exercises should be included in your daily routine. Number one is Cardio exercises like running, brisk walking, and jogging. Choose an appropriate activity, according to your health condition and age. It improves blood circulation and heart health.
The second type of exercise you should include in your daily routine is Yoga. It improves the flexibility of your body. A flexible body greatly improves your quality of life. The next exercise is Pranayam (Breathing exercise). Try to practice three Pranayam techniques; Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing) Kapal Bhaati (Internal Purification Technique) and Bhastrika (Below Breathing). You can also add Ujayi (Diaphragmatic Breath) and Agnisar (Cleansing Breathing Technique).
However, if you have any stomach-related problems, try to avoid Agnisar. The Ujayi pranayam also should not be done more than 3 to 5 times. In meditation practices, moreover, Bhramari Pranayam (Humming Breathing) is very beneficial. It sends positive vibrations from the root of the spine to the crown.
So, keep in mind that there’s no time like the ongoing period to make your health a priority. If you really want to start living a healthier life then focus on your diet, sleep, and lifestyle. Maintain a positive attitude all the time and this challenging time shall pass soon. And most important is to follow all the local COVID-related guidelines, including the vaccination protocol.
