The significance of family is nothing one can simply put in words. For family, words do not come into play, but emotions do; what are words if we don’t really mean them?
God has gifted us a family, to love and live with, to grow and learn from, a privilege above all else. Living with a family allows us to learn the meaning of sacrifice, patience, selflessness, and tolerance. Moreover it teaches you to be true to yourself, without any judgment. Despite all the love and compassion, not all families are perfect. Washing away the care and empathy from that united bond, the warmth of a close-knit family turns to fire and hatred, and some families break apart. A spiritual being knows the importance of that bond and will always try to save it instead of giving up on it. When an argument kicks in, a spiritual being would not let ego affect the preservation of a beautiful relationship. Spirituality teaches us one God made all living and non-living things, hence we are all a part of one big family.
The term `family’ is not merely restricted to blood relations; adopting orphans and animals makes them a part of your immediate family, just as much as when two families are united in marriage. Moreover, the friends who enter our life may just be strangers to us at first, but grow on us with time forming a bond just as strong as family. They all become a part of our family eventually, a family that we get to choose. Extending our family by will and choice is a privilege we should be grateful for. As the phrase from the Maha Upanishad goes
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – “the world is one family”
Living a spiritual life with a Guru, one learns to love extensively and accepts everyone’s flaws without any judgment. We learn to love unconditionally and become part of a spiritually divine family. This is God’s family, where one experiences the utmost pure form of love and where each heart beats as one.
Everyone in this life faces hardships and wants a way out. Some may think renunciation is an answer, but when one adopts spirituality, a Guru teaches one how to be in this world, yet be above it, making one capable of facing hardships with ease. Spirituality does not teach one to abandon family or relationships in order to reach a higher place; it aims at maintaining equilibrium in life. A Guru walks alongside one through the course of life, as part of their family, facing difficulties together with bonded hearts ready.
