Freedom for All

Our nation, India, was counted as one of the wealthiest countries, centuries ago. This land has been the mother to some of the most invaluable jewels that awed the world. But almost after a millennium of servitude to different perpetrators, we have landed ourselves in a position where over 70 million people are living below poverty. Food, clothing, and shelter are the basic needs of all human beings.

However, social circumstances have pushed a particular stratum of the population so far into the depths of deprivation, that they work for over 12 hours a day.  They do it not out of the will, but because they lack the money to fulfill their basic necessities. These people barely know what freedom is. Their mind holds the knowledge that they are a part of a free nation, but their soul has never felt it. This is the stratum where social evils like child abuse and child marriage are prevalent.

Challenges to be free

Even after more than 7 decades of our freedom, a huge part of our population is still struggling to make two ends meet. Some poor sections of the country have no basic necessities in their life, i.e. food, clothing and shelter. The current scenario at many places in the country is that they have no idea where their next meal would come from. Poverty, illiteracy and malnutrition are the greatest challenges that India needs to overcome and a common resolve is needed to eliminate them. We as the citizen of this beautiful Bharat need to bring a positive change in this regard. Each one of us along with the government needs to work on bringing the change for a better tomorrow and making our Nation proud.

Pledge to Change One life

This Independence Day let us take a pledge to work for these 70 million people. Even though money is at the roots of their sufferings, it is impossible to eliminate it. But eradicating social evils is something we can do. So, this 15th august let’s bring change into this nation by taking the initiative to change one life. For all of us who have money and are currently reading this article on a costly laptop or mobile screen, let’s be responsible citizens. We can bring this change by adopting a child, educating them, donating amenities, or raising funds. Those of you who are psychologists or psychiatrists, you can free the minds of the de-railed youths who are a step away from ruining their own lives and losing their freedom to ”law and order”. If possible, make a generous contribution to them or seek a decent employment opportunity for them.

Sharing Freedom

On this occasion of Independence Day, let us act as one nation, by trying to eradicate poverty and initiate the process of attaining freedom for the countless persons who are still a part of Un-Free India.
